Mini Libraries for Children Affected by Hurricane Sandy

I wrote about how NYC children who were affected by Hurricane Sandy need books. In addition to wanting to rebuild library collections, Urban Librarians Unite wants to get books to children who are now in shelters. Enter Mini Libraries: Cheerful little boxes of books and some craft supplies, too!

Here are some boxes made by me, Lauren, Lauren’s daughter, and Tim:

Better living with glitter paper.
Reusing those old cards!

Using the old “comics as wrapping paper” trick.
The international sign for Reading Will Happen Here. Notice the Smurf toys on the floor.
Lauren’s crafts always look better than mine.

Now, here are the best ones. Daisy Scouts Troop 4545 in Queens donated 11 boxes of books and crafts! Is it just me, or have Girl Scouts become the coolest people ever? Here are some of their beautifully decorated Mini Libraries. These are the sweetest things I’ve seen in a long time.

This is making me so verklempt, I can’t even tell you.
Every day is Caturday.

I saved the BEST ONE EVER for last:

If this doesn’t melt your cold, cold heart, then there’s nothing I can do for you.

~Love and Libraries, Ingrid
